Obtaining Jamaican Citizenship

Any person born in Jamaica prior to 5th August 1962, who was on that date a citizen of the United Kingdom and its colonies or any person born in Jamaica after 5thAugust 1962, is a Jamaican citizen by birth.

 

Some of the advantages of becoming a Jamaican citizen include but are not limited to the ability to:

§  Acquire a Jamaican Passport

§  Work without a work permit

§  Vote in General and Local Government Elections

§  Receive Social benefits and get access to government programmes

§  Be exempt from international fees at Jamaica’s universities

§  Duty free allowance from customs and at the airport as allotted to Jamaican nationals

§  Protection under the Constitution and laws of Jamaica

§  Register a non-Jamaican Spouse as a citizen of Jamaica
